Our
company supports the TEN PRINCIPLES of the Global
Compact concerning human rights, labour and
environmental protection, expressing our firm intention
to support and promote these principles within our
field of competence.
The
General Secretary of the United Nations, Kofi Annan,
presided a solemn act in Madrid the 9th of April 2002
with the aim of formally presenting the Global Compact
in Spain. This act was organised by the Fundació
Rafael del Pino and l'Associació
Cultural pro Nacions Unides.
The
ten principles of the Global Compact
In
the Global Compact, companies must adopt, support and
promote within their field of influence, a group of
fundamental values in human rights, labour and the
environment. This means that a company should give
rise to positive changes only within the sectors that
belong to its commercial operations.
The
ten principles that CATOR gives support are the following:
Human rights
1. Support and respect the protection of international
human rights within their sphere of influence; and
2. Make sure their own corporations are not complicit
in human rights abuses.
Labour
3. Freedom of association and the effective recognition
of the right to collective bargaining;
4. The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory
labour;
5. The effective abolition of child labour; and
6. The elimination of discrimination in respect of
employment and occupation.
Environment
7. Support a precautionary approach to environmental
challenges;
8. Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental
responsibility;
9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally
friendly technologies; and
Anti-Corruption
10.
Work against all forms of corruption,
including extortion and bribery.
"Let
us choose to unite the power of markets with the authority
of universal ideals. Let us choose to reconcile the
creative forces of private entrepreneurship with the
needs of the disadvantaged and the requirements of
future generations."
Kofi
Annan - General Secretary of the United Nations
