CATOR - Environmental awareness and training

Promotion of Sustainable Development

Following a policy of environmental awareness, information and training for active sustainable development, CATOR has created the Centro de Educación y Formación Medioambiental (CEFMA) (Environmental Education and Training Centre), in the grounds of the company in Alcover (Alt Camp).

This classroom aims to be an active centre for environmental awareness, information and training, for both the general public and the personnel working at the plant, in order to promote the environmental policy of

What use are reduction, recovery and recycling if no-one reuses these products?

It's good to use - as we do in our company - recycled and ecological paper, recycled ink cartridges, folders made from recycled cardboard, water from cleaning processes and reused in the refrigeration system, carry out the selective collection of all possible fractions, increase clean production, even though people believe - due to a lack of information - that recycled oil (as well as other products of more complicated use) is not high quality and is expensive, despite the fact that we have demonstrated in different ways that the base oils produced by CATOR (REGENOILŽ) have at least the same characteristics as oil from first refining, and have been awarded European (ACEA'98) and American (API) certificates and homologations that no other recycled oil has obtained. It is this policy that we wish to promote, the practice of using recycled products, that are as good as those produced using raw materials, trying to protect the environment and promote sustainable development: raw materials are a limited resource that must be conserved.

CATOR and the Generalitat de Catalunya have actively supported the reuse of these oils in their fleet of vehicles from the start, like many other European countries. Catalan Town Halls are starting to use them.

We've already used many resources to carry out this promotion, but we won't stop here:

  • co-operation with organizations concerned about the environment:
    • ecologist associations (Mediterrānia, Centre d'Iniciatives Ecolōgiques),
    • professional associations (FECATRA),
    • public organizations (town halls, comarcal councils, PIMEC-SEFES Environmental Commission ,...),
    • companies (FL Iberia, Magneti Marelli, Infineum);
  • organization of visits to our re-refining plant
    • for schools (IES Jaume Huguet, IES Pons Icart, Rovira i Virgili...),
    • occupational workshops (Mas Carandell, TAD'O Baix Camp...),
    • universities (Rovira i Virgili, Universitat de Girona, Escola d'Enginyers,...),
    • environmental education workshops (Mediterrānia, Cel Rogent,...),
    • professional colleges, companies and public bodies;

And now we want to get even more involved having created this Centro de Educaciķn y Formaciķn Medioambiental, co-ordinating all the activities we have been carrying out and incorporating new ones.

This centre offers the following advantages for everyone:

  • active promotion of sustainable development and environmental awareness and protection,
  • public information,
  • continuing education of personnel,
  • promotion of selective collection and the use of recycled products, with the experience CATOR among others,
  • spread environmental legislation of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Spanish State and the European Union.

Use recycled products: the Environment will thank you!
